Chrissy Angliker – A History of Yearning
Yearning is the tension between deep love and deep sorrow. What a fertile ground to draw from! Time and distance to that which one longs for only fuels those emotional flames. As time passes the yearning for it will completely devour the subject. What is left of it is real but not true. Attempting to portray the subject’s truth is pointless. What is being conveyed through its depiction is yearning itself; one of the most revealing descriptions of love I know.
The invitation to create work inspired by the Engadin region of Switzerland for Gallery Stalla Madulain, led me straight to my well of yearning; yearning for a country and people I love, removed from my everyday life for almost 20 years. The photographs of the Alps by local artist and lifer from the region, Constant Könz, became my entry point to this yearning. Exploring that energy led me further to my current muses, The Hausberger Twins, who became the conduit as well as the projection field of my longing for my sister Moni and our relationship. These subject matters of interpersonal and of the earth induced two distinctive painting processes with which theses relationships were visually translated.
Don’t confuse any of this with nostalgia. Nostalgia indicates a certain death of a time passed. Yearning is the journey of the continuous uninterrupted connection to that distant subject.
These embodiments of yearning and their muses meet, at Stalla Madulain.

Chrissy Angliker – CV
Chrissy Angliker is a Brooklyn based Swiss Artist. She was born in Zurich, Switzerland, and raised in Greifensee and Winterthur. Her artistic inclinations emerged at an early age. Beginning in 1996 she was fortunate to study with the Russian artist Juri Borodatchev, who became her artistic mentor for several years. In 1999 at age 16, Chrissy moved to the US to study Fine Art at the Walnut Hill School in Natick, Mass. In 2002, Chrissy had her first solo show at Gallery Juri in Winterthur, Switzerland. Seeking to broaden her means of expression, she then pursued a degree in Industrial Design at the Pratt Institute in New York. After spending her post-graduate years working in the design field, Chrissy's creative expression shifted back to painting in 2008. Her art is focused on visually translating her perception of herself in relationship to the world. She is known for her unique interaction with her medium. Her collaborative process with paint shapes and evolves the vocabulary of her paintings in continually unexpected ways. Over the past several years Chrissy’s work has been regularly selling out at shows in Europe and the US. She has been featured in several publications, including Forbes online in 2017, and this summer her new nude paintings were included on Tate Modern’s Instagram account to accompany the theme of the “All to Human” exhibit. She has been commissioned to collaborate with several companies, amongst them AOL, Burton and Wired Magazine. Her upcoming Solo shows are scheduled for Winter 2018 at Stalla Madulain in Switzerland, and spring 2019 at Craig Krull Gallery in Santa Monica, California.
Sara Masüger – In Your Hands
Sara Masüger's sculptures are primarily dedicated to the body, its size, its perception and its connection to space. In them, memory becomes visible as a process of distortion. Through direct impressions and deformations, Masüger creates a fragile field of tension between visual and haptic perception. The works focus on questions of recognizing and losing the body again. Often there are fragments and outgrowths that inhabit the sculptures and provide support.
The movement around the sculptures leads to different aspects of the works.
Depending on the point of view, one sees a landscape or a reclining woman.
The perception is put to the test. The viewer never knows exactly where is below, above, right, left, inside and outside - everything flows into each other and cannot really be grasped. The usual boundaries are abolished.
She is particularly strong in experimenting with new conditions and materials. She is able to capture the magic of the place and bring it into her creative process. For her first exhibition in the Stalla, for example, she had built a sculpture that began in the basement and reached through all three floors and ceilings to the top to the hayloft. For her, creating art means constantly treading new paths.
Masüger currently works mainly with the materials plaster, acrylic stables, rubber, tin, bronze and epoxy resin.

Sara Masüger was born in Baar ZG in 1978, has Grison roots and now lives and works in Zurich. She is one of the best-known young artists in Switzerland and graduated from the School of Art in Bern and the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam.
After the great success of her first exhibition at the Stalla Madulain 2015, new works from the last three years are now being shown. She has had a very emotional relationship with the Engadine since the very early xears. "I was so lucky to spend the summer months of my childhood on my grandmother's alp in La Motta on the Bernina Pass. Even today I'm always happy to go there."
Besides the current exhibition in the Stalla Madulain, Masüger's solo exhibitions “Teilkörper” in the Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur and “La sommation du corps” in FRAC Auvergne, France are currently taking place. Masüger is also participating with a site-specific, permanent and walk-in sculpture "Inn Reverse" in the Muzeum Susch, which will open on January 2, 2019.
In 2019 she will participate in the group exhibition "Iconic works" at the Ateneum Museum Helsinki, Finland. Since 2012 Sara Masüger has been exhibiting in various galleries and museums in Switzerland and abroad, including the Kunsthalle Marcel Duchamp, The Forestay Museum of Art, Cully; CAN, Neuchatel; Museum Rietberg, Zurich; Kunstmuseum St.Gallen; La Station, Nice and Migros Museum, Zurich.
