Conrad Jon Godly (* January 24, 1962 in Davos, Switzerland ) is a Swiss artist. He lives and works in Chur, Switzerland and Japan. His preferred working method is oil painting. His main focus is the landscape, especially the mountains of his homeland Graubünden and the landscapes of his adopted country Japan. His works, however, do not reproduce real landscapes, his painting is rather a search for the essence of the landscape and the essence of other things that occupy him in his painting. His mountain paintings have attracted international attention.

 

Conrad Jon Godly grew up in Davos. From 1982 to 1986 he enjoyed an education at the Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Basel, in the painting class of Franz Fedier. During a stay in the USA from 1986 to 1987 he made his first works in the medium of photography. Godly then worked exclusively with photography. He realised an international career as a photographer for magazines and advertising. In 2004 he broke with this career, returned to his homeland in the Grisons mountains and returned to painting. For four years he painted only for himself, whereby landscapes and in particular the high alpine mountains of Graubünden were his preferred subjects. From 2008 to 2009 he moved into a studio in Vienna. For the first time he showed works in 2009 in the annual exhibition of the Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur. Since then, Conrad Jon Godly has exhibited regularly in Zurich, London, the Engadine and Japan. He has been married to the Japanese artist Kazuyo Okushiba since 2014.

Kazuyo Okushiba (*1974 in Osaka, Japan) is a Japanese artist. She lives and works in Chur. She began her artistic career a few years ago with photography. For the past three years she has dedicated herself to small-format relief collages made of wood, lead and brass. She finds inspiration for her work in the landscapes of Graubünden, which she explores together with husband and her two dogs, and in music.
